Another Great Song For Entrepreneurs!

Ok, so Monday Morning, not feelin’ upbeat. Little slow, and was late for work. On the way in though, I popped in a new CD by Passion Pit called Chunk. I got really excited about the day after listening to their new album. They are very different sounding, but really got me ready for the week. I’ve said before, I really think business and music are inter-linked. Keep your music fresh, and it’ll help you stay excited about your business. Anyways, give it a listen…TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS

The Best Advice I Ever Got About Being an Entrepreneur

maskkThe best advice I ever heard someone give about being an entrepreneur was this:

“We need to be focusin’ on who’s around you that we can help bring up. We gotta start doin’ stuff together, you know what I’m sayin? There’s no replacement for helping somebody that needs help. Sometimes you’re not gonna know what you want to do in your life, whether it’s dreaming of a teeshirt company, or a design for a car, or whatever. And during those times, what you can always do is find someone to get behind and motivate to help and encourage them.”

– Charles “Mask” Lewis (Founder to MMA clothing brand “TapOut”)

That has honestly stuck with me for a long time, but I am only now starting to learn this key element to starting a business.

When I first started SpillYourself about a year ago, I thought it was just going to be about me working hard. What I found was some days are going to be harder than others, but what you can always do is encourage someone around you, and become invested in their goals and dreams. This has really helped me to get the motivation to keep going with SpillYourself.

I have come to find there is no bigger buzz I get than discussing a new business idea with someone, or hearing about someone’s new idea. I am also equally enthused when someone takes an interest in what I’m doing. So I don’t want to sound like I’m giving advice here, but if your motivation is slowing, ignore your own problems and help someone else, trust me!

So tell me about your ideas, and how I can help you?

Momentum and Hitting Your Stride in Business

I think the hardest part in the entrepreneurial stage is getting the ball rolling. A major key for me with SpillYourself.com has been to convince myself the ball will get rolling soon. I keep telling myself once it does get rolling, it’s really going to take off, you just have to push until you get there.

I’ve attached one of my favorite sports moments that illustrates this momentum perfectly. When the momentum is going, sometimes you can’t explain why or how, it just happens.

Taking Rest Days When Starting a Business?

Lately I’ve been wondering if I need a break. I think everyone does from time to time for risk of being burnt out, but then again, a rest day can also be viewed as a lost day. How do you balance the two? I have been trying to force myself to take a break from SpillYourself, but it’s hard, especially in a startup phase. So when people say to take a break, I usually respond with: “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” Haha.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Just one more video to get you going this week.

Keep The Entrepreneurial Motivation Going

I thought I’d share a video my mom of all people sent me.  I am not sure why, but it really got me going this morning. I hope you find inspiration in it and make this week great for your start-up business.

My Favorite Song

“My Way”

Performed By Frank Sinatra

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.

Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way
.

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say – not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!
